The pace of AI feature roll-outs in Google Workspace has been relentless, and the latest update brings a massive upgrade to the creative tools in both Google Slides and Google Vids. A new, more powerful image editing model is here, and with it comes the much-anticipated ability to edit your images using custom, natural language prompts.
A more powerful AI model under the hood
First up, the underlying AI is getting a big power-up. Google is upgrading the image editing capabilities in Slides and Vids to its latest model, codenamed “Nano Banana.” This is the same state-of-the-art model that recently brought huge improvements to image editing in the main Gemini app, known for its higher-quality outputs and better character consistency.
Edit images with your words
The most exciting part of this update is the new feature this model unlocks: custom prompting. Instead of being limited to pre-set options and filters, you can now select any image in your presentation or video project, click “Edit image,” and simply type a description of the changes you want to make.

Google gives the perfect example: you can ask Gemini to “Place this product in a New York subway station,” and it will generate a new image with that background, which you can then insert directly into your slide. This is a massive leap forward in creative control, moving beyond simple tweaks to a truly open-ended editing experience right where you work.
This powerful new feature is currently rolling out to most paid Workspace subscribers, Google AI Pro for Education users, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. It’s a fantastic upgrade that makes creating professional-looking visuals for your presentations and videos easier and more flexible than ever before.
