You can now create videos in Gemini chats with Google’s Veo 2

Google has announced a significant upgrade to its AI video generation capabilities, integrating the powerful Veo 2 model into both Gemini Advanced and Whisk. This update allows users to transform text prompts and static images into high-resolution, eight-second videos, opening up all sorts of new, creative possibilities.

Gemini Advanced users can now leverage Veo 2 right in Gemini chats (simply select it from the available model drop-down menu up top) to generate videos directly from text descriptions. The model is designed to produce detailed videos with cinematic realism that demonstrate an understanding of real-world physics and human motion.

Gemini Advanced users can control the final video output through detailed descriptions, exploring various visual styles and concepts. These videos are generated at 720p resolution in a 16:9 landscape format and delivered as MP4 files. Sharing to platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts is streamlined with a dedicated share button and it is all rolling out globally as we speak with support for all the languages Gemini offers.

Google One AI Premium subscribers can also gain access to Veo 2 through Whisk Animate. This feature animates user-provided images into eight-second video clips. Whisk, a Google Labs experiment, allows for the creation of new images using both text and image prompts, and now extends this functionality to video.

Google emphasizes that extensive red teaming and evaluations are conducted to prevent the generation of inappropriate content and that all videos generated with Veo 2 are marked with SynthID – a digital watermark that indicates the AI-generated nature of the content.

Both of these new video generation tools are currently rolling out, though I’m still waiting on it to arrive on my accounts. Gemini Advanced users can access Veo 2 immediately (just choose it from the available models at the top of the screen), and Google One AI Premium subscribers can begin using Whisk Animate right away as well.
