We’ve seen Gemini roll out across our phones, the web, and our Chromebooks, becoming a more powerful and capable AI assistant with each update. Today, that intelligence is making its way to the next logical place: your wrist. In a new blog post, Google has announced that Gemini is starting to roll out to Wear OS smartwatches beginning today.

This isn’t just a new coat of paint on the old assistant; it’s a significant upgrade designed to bring a more natural, intelligent, and capable AI experience to your watch. The update is coming to watches running Wear OS 4 and newer, including those from Google, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

How Gemini on your wrist will make your day easier

Using the same advanced AI models that are on your phone, Gemini on your watch can handle more complex, multi-step tasks that would have previously required you to pull out your phone. It works across your apps to get things done more efficiently. For example, you can now ask your watch to:

  • Summarize your last email from a coworker before a meeting.
  • Create a playlist for a 10-minute-mile run while you’re exercising.
  • Add your son’s next five baseball games to your calendar in one go.
  • Remember your specific parking spot so you don’t forget later.
  • Send a message to a friend apologizing for running late without stopping your workout.

To enable these more powerful actions, you’ll just need to make sure you’ve enabled the extensions for apps like Gmail and Google Calendar within the Gemini app settings on your paired phone.

A more natural way to interact

Beyond complex tasks, the new update is designed to make interactions feel more natural. Gemini on Wear OS can better understand your normal speech patterns and deliver fast, concise responses right on your wrist. This is perfect for those quick, on-the-go questions when your hands are full, like asking, “Do I need an umbrella today?” as you head out the door.

You can start talking with Gemini in a few ways: by saying “Hey Google,” pressing and holding the side button on your watch, or by tapping on the Gemini app icon on your watch screen. The rollout for watches running Wear OS 4+ is starting today, July 9, 2025, and will continue over the coming weeks. Watches that upgrade to the new Wear OS 6 will also include support.
