The Walmart Onn 4K Pro has rightly earned its reputation as one of the best deals in the Google TV space – and maybe even in streaming hardware overall. When it launched last year with Android 12, it delivered a fantastic experience for its tiny price tag. Now, it’s getting a welcome jump to a newer version of the OS: Android 14 is now rolling out to the Onn 4K Pro.
This is a nice step up, especially considering some newer devices, like Google’s own Chromecast with Google TV (HD and 4K after its update), are already running this version.
According to reports from multiple users (via 9to5Google), the update is arriving with firmware version URO1.250103.029.A1. The official changelog is pretty brief, confirming:
- Update Android OS to version 14
- Security Patch Level (SPL) update
- Minor bug fixes
If you’re expecting a ton of flashy new user-facing features with Android 14 on a streaming box like this, you might want to temper those expectations a bit. The Android 14 update for TV devices was primarily focused on enhancements for actual TV sets. However, the hope is that this OS upgrade should make everything feel a bit more snappy and responsive on the Onn 4K Pro, which is always a plus.
The update does appear to bring some welcome fixes. Users have reported that issues with Dolby Vision playback in the Netflix app have been resolved, which is a definite win.
However, as is sometimes the case with software updates, a few new quirks might pop up. Some users are reporting that the Settings app can now crash in certain instances. It’s worth noting that this same behavior was also observed by some when the Android 14 update rolled out to the Chromecast with Google TV. If you do run into smaller bugs or odd behavior after updating, the article suggests that performing a factory reset after the installation could help smooth things out.
