We have all been there: you are in a Google Meet call, you hit “Present” to share your screen, and suddenly your colleagues disappear behind your slide deck or spreadsheet. You are left presenting to the void, unable to see head nods, confused looks, or raised hands.
Google is fixing this common pain point with a helpful update, however, and Google Meet now supports automatic picture-in-picture (PiP) when starting a screen share.
See your audience while you present
This feature builds on a previous update that automatically opened PiP when you switched tabs. Now, the moment you begin sharing your screen, a small video window will pop out automatically. This allows you to keep an eye on your audience’s reactions while still focusing on the content you are presenting.

You control the behavior
If you don’t like windows popping up automatically, don’t worry. Google has added granular controls in the General tab in Settings so you can decide exactly when this happens. You can choose to:
- Never use automatic picture-in-picture.
- Only use it for tab switching.
- Only use it for window and screen sharing.
- Always use automatic picture-in-picture.
Availability
This feature is ON by default, so you might notice it the next time you present. It is available now for Rapid Release domains and will roll out to Scheduled Release domains starting December 15, 2025. It is available to everyone, including Workspace customers and personal Google accounts.
