Following their big debut at the Made by Google 2025 event, the exciting new software features for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are now officially rolling out. A new firmware update (version 4.467) is beginning to arrive for users, and it’s a true Feature Drop, bringing a host of smart new capabilities that make Google’s flagship earbuds even better.

Meet ‘Adaptive Audio’ and Loud Noise Protection

The headline feature of this update is a brand-new noise control mode called Adaptive Audio. Sitting alongside the existing Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes, Adaptive Audio is an intelligent middle ground. It dynamically reduces the volume of unwanted, sustained background noises—like the hum of a metro or the clatter of a gym—while still keeping you aware of your immediate surroundings.

When Adaptive Audio is active, it also enables Loud Noise Protection, a fantastic feature that automatically reduces the volume of sudden, loud sounds like a passing fire truck’s siren to help protect your hearing.

Truly hands-free with new head gestures

This update also introduces a truly hands-free way to interact with calls and texts. With new head gestures, you can now simply nod your head to answer an incoming call or reply to a text message, and shake your head to decline a call or dismiss the reply. It’s a brilliant addition for those moments when your hands are full. It is worth noting, however, that Google says this specific feature will be rolling out over the next few weeks, so it may not be available immediately after your firmware is updated.

Clearer conversations with Gemini Live

Finally, the update brings an improvement to your interactions with Gemini. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will now use advanced audio processing to better prioritize your voice and eliminate background noise, ensuring your conversations with Gemini Live are clearer and more uninterrupted, even when you’re in a noisy environment.

This is a fantastic and feature-packed update that makes the Pixel Buds Pro 2 smarter and more capable than ever. The new firmware will roll out to all users automatically over time, but you can check for it manually in the Pixel Buds app by heading to More settings > Firmware update and looking for version 4.467.
