Anticipation for the upcoming Samsung Chromebook Plus and Pro is about to be halfway alleviated when, on February 12th, we’ll all be able to get our hands on the Plus.
While the ARM-powered Chromebook Plus will be a great 3rd device for many people, there are others (perhaps including myself) who would like to see this particular Chromebook show up with a bit more RAM to accompany the capable Core m3 processor in the Pro.

If I’m wishing, I’d love to see one with a bit more storage as well. The Core m3 is fine with me if the ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 is any indication.
While we don’t have any firm info about expanded storage options, we do seem to have some references in the Chromium Repositories that point to an 8GB variant of the Pro in the works.
You can see for yourself here.
As always, things in the Repositories may or may not come to fruition. There is no way for us to know for sure.
However, the language seems clear that this variation could definitely happen in the future. See for yourself:
Adding SPD table of Samsung K4EBE304EB-EGCG memory component. We might add 16G memory sku with this component in future.
With a quick search for that particular memory unit, we find both a 4×2 and 8×2 setup, giving us the 8GB and 16GB variations that could come in the future.
While 16GB at this stage is perhaps overkill, an 8GB option would likely be very, very well received by the Chromebook community.
Here’s hoping that at least an 8GB option shows up near the launch of the Samsung Chromebook Pro, slated for April.
