so there's a good chance if you're
0:01
watching our videos on YouTube you don't
0:02
keep up with all the latest news over at
0:04
chrom andbox decom we kind of get into
0:06
very fine details over there but there
0:08
is one story that's kind of been
0:09
developing over the last few months that
0:11
I think is really worth our YouTube
0:13
audience knowing about and it's mediat
0:15
Tech's latest greatest biggest baddest
0:18
fastest arm chip uh right now still code
0:21
named as the Mt 8196 but it's coming in
0:24
a few Chromebooks hopefully in the next
0:25
few months and it promises some really
0:29
wild speed gains and so I just thought
0:32
it'd be a good time to tell you guys
0:33
about
0:37
it so a bit of backstory before we get
0:39
into this we've had arm chips in
0:41
Chromebooks before quite a few of them
0:43
actually and none of them are really
0:45
like Flagship like fastest Chromebook
0:48
you can buy level and part of that is
0:49
due to the fact that arm in general um
0:52
just hasn't really been up to Snuff with
0:55
you know what Intel has offered over the
0:57
years but that's changed in the last
0:59
couple years and if you've looked at
1:01
anything from Apple um some of these new
1:03
windows devices these co-pilot PCS with
1:06
Snapdragon inside arm is making big
1:09
moves when it comes to just raw power in
1:12
in laptops and in PCS and so you know
1:14
what Apple's done with the M1 M2 M3 and
1:17
Max Ultra and all that stuff those are
1:19
all arm chips they're all based on arm
1:21
cores and uh that's the same kind of
1:24
stuff that's in your tablets and your
1:25
phones and again we've had Arm based
1:27
chips in Chromebooks that just have
1:29
never been that fast fast and and again
1:31
that's that's all changing now we knew
1:33
that the Mt 8196 was coming uh we've
1:35
known it for a little while uh there's
1:37
another chip actually the Mt 8189 that's
1:39
beginning development too but the 96 is
1:42
way further along and it's only one
1:44
digit more than the Mt 8195 that is
1:47
actually out in in Chromebooks that I
1:50
don't even know if any of them are on
1:51
the market still but they are the
1:53
compano 1380 and compano 1200 uh there
1:56
were a couple devices that had those in
1:57
them and it's like those Chromebooks
1:59
came out and just kind of got shuffled
2:00
away they were pretty powerful though
2:03
but they were still not quite up to what
2:04
Intel offers you know the the latest
2:06
grest Intel chips it was like yeah
2:08
they're they're fast for arm Chromebooks
2:10
but they're not fast fast but what we're
2:12
seeing here lately with the Mt 8196 is
2:15
in geekbench um they're running some
2:18
tests on them whoever's developing on
2:20
them they're actually running them
2:21
through geekbench and just a few days
2:22
ago uh the Mt 8196 was run its code name
2:26
uh if you want to look the stuff up for
2:27
yourself uh the baseboard is raw
2:30
uh r a u Ru uh in the development board
2:33
the actual Chromebook itself that we're
2:35
expecting hopefully sometime in 2025 is
2:38
na'vi naavi and that device if you go
2:41
search for raru or na'vi on geekbench 6
2:45
you're going to get some results and the
2:46
latest results are incredibly impressive
2:49
so in single core it's getting
2:51
2545 and then in multicore
2:54
7841 and to put those in reference when
2:57
I started looking up geek bench scores
2:59
for all Chromebooks every Chromebook all
3:02
of them the fastest ones I could think
3:03
of the ones with core i7s the ones with
3:06
16 gigs of RAM all of them those scores
3:08
beat all those Chromebooks so I mean
3:11
again let's put it into reference we're
3:12
talking about things like the latest
3:14
Acer Chromebook 714 the the big bad uh
3:18
Asus
3:19
cx54 you know even gaming Chromebooks
3:22
that have you know extra cores in them
3:24
for performance and stuff like that like
3:26
the 516 G from Acer it's not to say
3:28
these Chromebooks are slow in any way
3:30
shave or formance actually to say that
3:31
these are very very fast Chromebooks and
3:34
that this new chip that is coming to at
3:37
least two Chromebooks uh in the in the
3:39
next year or so uh from mediatech we
3:41
don't know exactly what it's going to be
3:42
called uh it looks like it's based on
3:44
the dimensity 9400 which is a monster
3:46
chip in phones and tablets already right
3:48
now it's kind of the same core layout
3:50
but this chip in Chromebooks right now
3:53
is beating all Chromebooks all of them
3:56
the fastest Chromebook you can imagine
3:58
this arm chip is going to be faster and
4:01
that's a big deal because this will be
4:02
the first time that arm has been able to
4:04
like really honestly compete for like
4:07
Flagship status it will end up being
4:10
obviously the first arm powered
4:12
Chromebook plus model or models
4:14
hopefully we're going to get a few of
4:15
them uh but you know arm brings with it
4:18
all these benefits you get not just the
4:20
performance but you're going to get
4:21
great battery life you're going to get
4:22
the ability to have very thin chassis I
4:24
know I'm saying that with the Samsung
4:26
sitting next to me it's incredibly thin
4:27
with Intel inside but you get the idea
4:30
you can you can be a little bit more
4:32
flexible with the hardware when you're
4:33
using an arm chip cuz you don't
4:34
necessarily have to have fans if you
4:36
don't want to uh depending on on the
4:38
processor load and it just allows you a
4:40
little bit more flexibility in the form
4:42
factors of things that you can build and
4:44
so it's super exciting to see so before
4:46
we wrap this up I want to show you what
4:49
performance currently looks like cuz a
4:50
lot of times in our reviews anymore we
4:53
just kind of move past this like we just
4:54
say yeah it's fast and because
4:56
Chromebooks have gotten to the point
4:57
where there's so much headro they are
4:59
fast and so we don't spend a ton of time
5:01
like showing you the same stuff over and
5:03
over again but I've opened up just an
5:05
absolute ton of stuff on the Samsung uh
5:08
Galaxy Chromebook plus and it's not even
5:10
the fastest of Chromebooks like some of
5:12
these over here I would say probably
5:14
would score a little higher than the
5:15
Samsung but you get the idea like we
5:18
want to show you kind of what this
5:19
performance is and what it looks like
5:20
right now and know that in an arm-based
5:23
Chromebook here in the next few months
5:24
likely we're going to have arm-based
5:26
Chromebooks that are going to be faster
5:28
and more performing than this so as you
5:31
can see I have the uh the article that's
5:34
talking about all this kind of stuff and
5:35
you can see on the screen now just uh
5:38
some of the other so the GPU test the
5:40
npu all of them across the board this
5:43
this upcoming Chip is going to win in
5:45
all categories it's just wild to me uh
5:47
that this is happening but uh I just
5:49
want to show you kind of overview of
5:51
what I've got going on here so we got I
5:53
think seven concurrent YouTube videos
5:55
playing and if they've stopped I'm going
5:56
to get them all started here and so
5:58
you'll kind of see me
6:00
uh swipe around the interface let's keep
6:02
keep these things going let's keep them
6:04
going let's keep them going here uh that
6:06
one's just a page um this one's got a
6:09
couple things on it that one's still
6:12
going yeah we've kicked the fans on that
6:14
means we're actually getting some stuff
6:15
done here only kicked on for a second
6:18
though here we
6:20
go what's that count up to now like six
6:23
seven I
6:24
think uh there we go and so you can see
6:27
I can still move around the interface
6:29
um swipe gestures all that kind of stuff
6:33
um with no real issue I can switch
6:36
between virtual desks nice and quick no
6:40
problems there we can go to overview
6:43
quickly move between applications I can
6:45
move stuff between screen oops missed
6:48
the missed my drop there oh I'm on that
6:50
screen user error there drop this one
6:52
over here then we'll go back to here and
6:55
then we'll throw this up and throw this
6:56
over here so I mean obviously no no real
6:59
in performance here I mean this thing is
7:02
uh this thing's moving along just fine
7:03
and I'm I'm pushing it Way Beyond what
7:05
what you normally would push it but we
7:07
just wanted to show you like that's
7:08
current level Intel uh performance uh
7:11
that's the 13th gen core I3 I think and
7:14
so yeah these Chromebooks can actually
7:15
get a little even a little faster than
7:17
that like I said there's tons of
7:18
performance overhead already in
7:20
Chromebooks at the top end when you get
7:21
to that $6 $700 range and what we're
7:24
saying is this latest arm ship is going
7:26
to beat all of them um and again if you
7:30
haven't been following Chromebooks or
7:31
you you don't pay that much attention to
7:33
processors and arm versus x86 look I get
7:36
it this may not seem like that big of a
7:37
deal to you but I'm telling you it's a
7:40
big deal uh it's a big shift in the
7:42
Chromebook space because it'll be the
7:44
first time uh that we'll have Flagship
7:47
caliber Chromebooks with arm processors
7:49
inside and so we are looking very very
7:52
forward to this happening we got our
7:54
fingers crossed hoping uh that maybe in
7:56
the at the Chromebook showcase that
7:58
should happen sometime in in the spring
8:00
uh that maybe we'll see at least a a
8:02
preview of one of these devices but
8:04
that's it for this one if you guys
