The creative tools powered by Google’s Gemini continue to get more impressive by the day. In a new announcement on the Workspace Updates blog, Google has unveiled a fantastic new feature that feels truly special: you can now use Gemini to craft personalized, illustrated storybooks about any topic, complete with read-aloud narration: turning Gemini into a creative partner for parents, educators, and anyone with a story to tell.

How to create your own AI storybook

The process is designed to be simple and flexible. You can create a story by either using the new pre-made “Storybook Gem” or by simply describing the storybook you want in a prompt. Gemini will then create a unique 10-page illustrated storybook with custom audio narration.

What makes this feature truly magical is its ability to ground the story in your own content. You can add photos and other files to teach a lesson, explore past memories, or use it as a canvas for imaginative fiction. The example Google provides is a perfect showcase of this power – create a storybook for my 2 and 4 yo daughters explaining my career to them based on my uploaded resume and photo.

The ability to take something as dry as a resume and turn it into an illustrated, narrated story for your kids is an incredible and heartwarming use of this technology.

A few limitations

As with any new feature, there are a few limitations to be aware of at launch. First, storybooks are currently available only to users 18 and older.

There are also some sharing restrictions for now. Google Workspace business and education users cannot share the storybooks they create. However, if a user with a personal Google account shares a link to a storybook, Workspace users will be able to view it (though they can’t take additional actions, like asking Gemini to refine the content).

This is another incredible creative tool being added to the Gemini suite. The potential for personalized learning, unique family keepsakes, and imaginative fun is immense. The feature is available now on the web version of Gemini, with a gradual rollout to the mobile apps over the next couple of weeks. We can’t wait to see what people create with this.
