When Google Vids first launched, the focus was heavily on professional, photorealistic AI avatars. They’re great for formal presentations, but let’s be honest: sometimes a hyper-realistic digital human can feel a little… stiff. Google is fixing that today by injecting some personality into the platform with new 2D and 3D cartoon-styled avatars.

This update, alongside a massive expansion in language support, makes Google Vids feel like a much more approachable tool for creators, educators, and global teams alike.

Cartoon avatars: from professional to approachable

The star of the show here is the introduction of expressive, stylized characters. Google is rolling out both 2D and 3D cartoon avatars designed to hit a different emotional note than their photorealistic counterparts.

According to Google, these are perfect for:

  • Education: Keeping students engaged with fun, relatable characters for complex concepts.
  • Internal Comms: Using “fun recaps” to summarize project results without the boardroom formality.
  • Broadening Reach: Connecting with younger audiences or different cultural backgrounds where a stylized look feels more natural.

It’s not just about looks, though. Google is also significantly expanding how these avatars communicate. Previously limited to English, AI avatars and voiceovers in Google Vids now support seven additional languages:

  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Korean
  • Japanese

This is a massive win for global teams. You can now type a script in Spanish, for example, and have your chosen avatar deliver it with realistic narration in that native tongue. It removes a huge layer of friction for companies trying to educate a global workforce or pitch international clients.

Rollout and Availability

These features are starting to roll out now for Rapid Release domains, with Scheduled Release domains seeing them starting March 9, 2026. Most Business, Enterprise, and Education tiers should expect to get access. Interestingly, Google is also offering promotional access to generative AI features in Vids (including these new avatars) through May 31, 2026, for Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, and Nonprofit accounts.

It’s clear Google is iterating fast on Vids, moving it away from being just “slides with video” and toward a legitimate, AI-powered production studio. Whether you want a realistic pro or a 3D cartoon to deliver your message, the options are finally starting to catch up to the potential.
