Google is officially upgrading its real-time voice AI today with the launch of Gemini 3.1 Flash Live. This new model is built specifically to handle the speed and natural rhythm of human speech, and it is rolling out right now to Gemini Live and Search Live for everyone.
If you use Gemini Live regularly on your phone or Chromebook, you know the AI can sometimes struggle to keep up if you hesitate, stutter, or try to interrupt it. Google says this update is designed to fix exactly that. Google says 3.1 Flash Live delivers much faster responses and can now follow the thread of your conversation for twice as long, keeping your train of thought intact during long brainstorming sessions.
It is also significantly better at picking up on acoustic nuances like your pitch and pace. That means the AI can actually tell if you are getting frustrated or confused and will dynamically adjust its tone to match the situation.
Because the new model is inherently multilingual, Google is also using this launch to expand Search Live to over 200 countries and territories this week. You can now have real-time, multimodal conversations with Search in your preferred language.
