Google is broadening the accessibility of Gemini Live’s camera and screen sharing features, confirming their availability across “any Android device with Gemini Advanced.” This significantly expands the potential user base for these very interesting new, interactive capabilities; squashing speculation that they might be limited to specific flagship devices. While the rollout remains gradual, and users may not see the features immediately, this confirms Google’s intent to make Gemini Live a widely available tool.
The support page provides details regarding the camera and screen sharing functions. Specifically, the camera automatically deactivates when a Live session is paused, the Gemini mobile app is exited, or the device’s screen is locked. Resuming a Live chat reactivates the camera, but users must manually re-enable it after returning to the app or unlocking their screen. Similarly, screen sharing ceases when a Live session is paused or the screen is locked, and it requires manual reactivation.
Initial reports in January suggested potential exclusivity for the Pixel and Galaxy S25 series, but the current support article dispels those notions. The inclusion of foldables and tablets within the “any Android device” designation further underscores Google’s commitment to widespread adoption.
As Gemini Live continues its phased roll-out, Android users with Gemini Advanced can anticipate the arrival of this powerful new feature on their devices in the coming days and weeks. I know I’ll be checking Gemini constantly for this, and as it arrives for anyone willing to upgrade to Gemini Advanced, it is going to be pretty wild to see what happens once Google’s AI has a much more capable way to interact with the real world.
