If you noticed slight UI jitter or occasional input delay after updating your Chromebook to milestone 151 last week, you aren’t imagining things. Google has officially pushed an incremental maintenance update to the Stable channel, rolling out ChromeOS version 16733.54.0 (Browser version 151.0.7922.168) to supported Chromebooks and ChromeOS Flex devices.
While point releases usually slip under the radar without much fanfare, this specific patch addresses several annoying platform quirks that slipped into the initial ChromeOS 151 rollout.
According to the official Google Chrome Releases Stable Channel announcement, version 16733.54.0 targets stability and rendering performance across the core ChromeOS desktop stack. Here is what this point release resolves under the hood:
- Aura Window Manager Hangs: Fixed a specific race condition within the Aura compositor that caused intermittent micro-freezes when rapidly snapping windows into split-screen mode or switching virtual desks.
- Input Subsystem Latency: Resolved a touch and stylus input polling delay on convertible Chromebooks, restoring instantaneous stylus tracking and eliminating phantom gestures on the shelf.
- Graphics Buffer Synchronization: Addressed an out-of-sync GPU frame buffer bug in WebGL and WebGPU rendering pipelines that occasionally produced flickering in hardware-accelerated web apps and progressive web apps (PWAs).
- Bluetooth Audio Reconnect Stability: Patched an edge-case audio daemon crash when waking a Chromebook from sleep with paired Bluetooth LE headphones.
For users who rely on their Chromebooks for fluid multitasking, split-screen note-taking, and cloud gaming, this quick maintenance pass restores the snappy, lightweight feel we’re all used to from ChromeOS. To grab the update right now:
- Head into your device Settings.
- Click About ChromeOS at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Select Check for updates.
Your device will download version 16733.54.0 and prompt a quick reboot to apply the fixes.
