The YouTube app for the larger screen is reportedly undergoing a significant overhaul to more prominently feature paid content offerings. Unsurprisingly, YouTube seems to recognize the increasing use of YouTube services on the big screen versus phones and tablet, and they are tinkering with ways to leverage that trend by making paid content more accessible and visible.
According to The Information, the proposed redesign will reportedly shift the app’s interface to resemble that of other major streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. This means a more curated and visually driven experience, with paid content taking center stage. Instead of burying premium content within menus or sections, YouTube plans to bring it to the forefront, making it easier for users to discover and engage with.
One key aspect of this redesign involves integrating creator videos marked as “episodes” into paid channel content streams. This blending of content will be facilitated by a new feature that allows creators to organize their videos into seasons and episodes, creating a more cohesive and structured viewing experience. This move could potentially bridge the gap between traditional YouTube content and premium offerings, creating a more seamless flow for viewers.
The report also indicates that this TV app redesign will be rolled out “in the coming months.” This suggests that the company is moving quickly to implement these changes and capitalize on the growing television viewing market. As we’ve seen with YouTube TV’s recent price adjustments and added premium content, YouTube is committed to maximizing its revenue potential. This redesign of the YouTube TV app is another step in that direction, aiming to create a more integrated and lucrative paid content ecosystem.
