We’ve all been there: spending more time looking for a movie than actually watching one, or constantly pausing a game to look up stats on our phones. Google’s new update for Google TV aims to fix that by making Gemini more proactive and visual and moving beyond simple text-based answers. Now, when you ask a question, the response is tailored with the most relevant media.
- Sports fans: If you ask for a score, you’ll see a live scorecard and a direct link to where you can watch the game.
- Home cooks: Asking for a recipe will now pull up a video tutorial alongside the instructions. The goal is to provide a “perfect mix” of text, video, and imagery so you don’t have to go digging through multiple apps.
Deep Dives for the curious
Google is introducing a feature called Deep Dives, which turns your TV into an educational tool. These are narrated, visual breakdowns of complex topics like health, wellness, economics, and technology. Whether you want to understand the science behind cold plunging or how matcha is made, you can select “Dive deeper” or visit the new Gemini tab at the top of your Home screen to start a guided, interactive walkthrough for the whole family.
Timely Sports Briefs
Building on the “news briefs” introduced last year, Google is launching Sports Briefs. These are narrated overviews that catch you up on the latest highlights and player news in just a few minutes. The feature currently supports:
- NBA and NCAA Basketball
- NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL You can find your personalized lineup of sports highlights in the Gemini tab, ensuring you’re ready for the next tip-off without having to scroll through social media feeds.
Availability and Rollout
- Richer Visual Help: Rolling out today to Gemini-enabled devices in the U.S. and Canada.
- Deep Dives & Sports Briefs: Available now in the U.S., with broader device support coming later this spring.
- Global Expansion: The Gemini for Google TV voice assistant is headed to Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain this spring, with more countries coming throughout 2026.
