We just wrapped up our annual “Best of” video highlighting our top picks for the Chromebook segments ranging from budget to ultra-premium. Despite 2020 be the most bizarre year in recent history, the options for getting a great Chromebook in any price range are better than ever before and we still have two months to go that could produce even more awesome choices. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, here’s the full rundown of our top picks of 2020 in each category including honorable mentions.
Best Chromebooks of 2020
Now that you know what we think are the best devices, I’m here to give you the good news that three of the Chromebooks on this list are currently discounted and available at Best Buy. These Chromebooks made our list not because they are the most powerful devices on the market but instead because they offer best balance of features and performance in their respective price brackets. So, without further ado, here’s a list of top-pick Chromebooks that we highly recommend and that you can currently get at a discount.
Acer Chromebook Spin 713
The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 didn’t just win the best device in its class. It is our #1 choice for the best overall device of 2020 and I highly doubt that anything is on the way before the end of the year that will supplant the reigning champ. The 10th Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage make this Chromebook a powerful device that can appease even the most finicky Chrome OS user and the bright, 3:2 display makes for an expansive workspace that’s great in any environment. It doesn’t hurt that the Spin 713 also supports any USI stylus on the market. At $629, this is the best bang for the buck of any Chromebook on the market but today, you can pick up the all-aluminum convertible for only $549 and that makes this a deal too good to pass up. HP Chromebook x360 14c
A formidable runner-up in the mid-range category, HP’s second iteration of its flagship 14″ x360 offers up the same great build quality as its predecessor with the boost in performance of the 10th Gen Intel Core i3 CPU. Once again, HP did the smart thing and packed 8GB of RAM into this 2-in-1 Chromebook and it checks off a lot of the boxes we look for in a $500-$600 device. That said, I feel that the HP would do well with a retail of $549 to create a little distance between itself and the noticeably more premium Acer Spin 713.
The HP Chromebook x360 14c does add a fingerprint sensor on the keyboard deck which is quickly becoming a sought-after feature on premium Chromebooks. Personally, I’ve grown very fond of the feature and I’m glad to see HP and others getting ahead of this trend. The only real nit with this device is the fact that HP still hasn’t figured out that “flagship” Chromebooks should have bright displays. For $629, anything under 300 nits is a bit of an insult to picky users like myself. Still, this is a well-rounded device and right now, you can pick it up for $499 at Best Buy. If it were me, I’d scratch up the extra $50 and grab the Acer but later this month, the HP will drop below $400, and then it will be an absolute steal. Lenovo Chromebook Duet
Last but by no means least, the tiny wonder from Lenovo came in number one on our list of budget Chromebooks and the race wasn’t even close. Where else will you find a super bright, highly-versatile 2-in-1 Chromebook that’s under $300? Nowhere. The 10.1″ Chrome OS tablet is portable yet powerful enough to do an average day’s worth of moderate work with tons of battery to spare. It’s the go-to tablet around our house for the kids and it’s the perfect device to throw in your bag when you’re on the go or just heading down to the local coffee shop. The 128GB model from Best Buy is just a few dollars more than the lesser 64GB model and that’s why we usually recommend spending the extra dough for double the storage. Today, you can grab the 128GB version from Best Buy for the same $249 that the other model usually sells for at Walmart. Check out our review and grab yours at the link below.
