We recently had the opportunity to attend the Chrome Summit 2024, an event that dives deep into the world of ChromeOS in the enterprise sector. While we tend to generally focus on consumer-facing Chromebooks and software, this event provided a fascinating glimpse into how ChromeOS (and ChromeOS Flex, by extension) is being leveraged in all sorts of ways in various industries.
The key takeaway? Chrome OS is experiencing a surge in popularity within the enterprise world. This is largely due to the increasing number of businesses transitioning to web-based applications and cloud computing. As companies ditch traditional software models, Chrome OS devices, with their inherent security and ease of management, are becoming the perfect fit. And the momentum is contagious.

hey guys so we are at the Chrome
0:01
Enterprise Summit uh Google invited us
0:04
to come up to this event and it's not
0:05
something that we would normally do to
0:07
be honest with you uh the Enterprise
0:09
sector is almost like this different
0:11
animal from the general consumer
0:14
Chromebook sector and uh it's been a
0:16
really cool trip and there's a lot of
0:18
stuff that we want to show you but the
0:20
general gist here is the fact that when
0:22
it comes to Enterprise Chromebooks are a
0:25
great fit for a lot of people and over
0:27
the years they've been a great fit for a
0:28
lot of people but they not been a great
0:30
fit for all businesses and a lot of that
0:32
has to do with application delivery and
0:34
so if applications aren't on the web it
0:36
makes it really hard for chromos to kind
0:38
of be the right fit for a company but
0:40
what we're finding now is that we're in
0:41
this momentum where there are so many
0:44
more companies that have already moved
0:46
all of their stuff to the web and
0:48
because of that more and more adoption
0:50
of Chrome OS devices and Chrome OS Flex
0:53
devices is happening and it's just
0:55
really neat to see the momentum to see
0:57
all the ways that chrom OS and chrom Os
0:59
Flex are being integrated into
1:00
businesses of all sorts and so uh we
1:03
just want to take you around some of
1:04
these booths and show you how that's
1:09
happening so we were able to actually
1:12
catch up and uh hang out with naine here
1:14
uh from the Chrome Enterprise team or
1:17
Chom team everybody kind of Blends
1:20
together uh but specifically yesterday
1:22
uh naine shared some things about just
1:24
the kind of overarching story of how
1:27
businesses have moved from you know not
1:30
really having these web applications to
1:32
you know that not really being as much
1:34
of a hurdle anymore so can you speak to
1:35
that just a little bit yeah it's it's
1:37
one of the big trends that we're seeing
1:39
and I shouldn't say it's a new trend
1:40
it's it's been ongoing for many years
1:43
now but I think the where we're at right
1:46
now in maybe the last couple years it
1:48
feels like we're at this inflection
1:50
point where businesses have clearly
1:52
moved over and we have you know notable
1:55
large siiz organizations that are all
1:58
web meaning not mostly web but all web
2:01
so you have you know employees that are
2:03
using a endpoint and 100% web
2:07
applications and that's offering a lot
2:09
of uh you know flexibility and increased
2:11
security for businesses and that's
2:13
really been the main driver I think uh
2:15
you know kind of coming out of Co there
2:17
were a lot of trends that started um
2:20
that I think are continuing to persist
2:22
the move to more uh flexible deployment
2:24
models zero trust um different types of
2:27
work models hybrid uh uh remote in
2:31
office and managing all of that coupled
2:34
with this increased concern around
2:36
security that's just kind of motivated
2:38
this move to a much more um safe but
2:41
powerful uh application delivery
2:42
mechanism which is the web and so we're
2:44
seeing this kind of Turning Point right
2:46
now and increasingly more and more
2:47
businesses are actually like moving to
2:49
that 100% web model awesome yeah very
2:51
awesome well hey thanks for your time
2:53
yeah thank you guys always take care
2:56
[Music]
3:00
so what we want to do is there's a bunch
3:02
of booths here that just show off these
3:04
capabilities we're talking about and
3:06
again the idea here being that we're
3:08
we're moving into a situation now where
3:10
more and more companies have moved to
3:12
the web they have web-based applications
3:14
they're using virtualization all this
3:15
kind of stuff so it opens the door for
3:17
all kinds of things like all of this
3:20
like no joke this stuff's running Chrome
3:22
OS so you have these I mean
3:24
unfortunately most of us have probably
3:26
seen these you had yourself or a loved
3:28
one that's been in a hospital some sort
3:30
of Clinic you know what these are this
3:31
is what the nurse or the doctor goes in
3:33
they need to tap in tap out pretty
3:35
quickly and you know they need to save
3:37
time doing that they don't want to have
3:39
some clunky uh uh password driven thing
3:42
they need to be able to tap in tap out
3:44
well chromos can do that uh chromeos can
3:46
handle that so this is actually all set
3:48
up to work this would be the ID card tap
3:51
in ready to go then I'm I'm done with
3:55
that one I'm going to this next station
3:57
I need to tap in again
4:01
tapped in done tapped out and you know
4:05
these particular setups are running some
4:06
virtualization so that certain you know
4:08
Legacy applications are working but that
4:10
can all be delivered via the web so
4:12
you've got these really complex very
4:14
specific use cases that just work uh and
4:18
and they work at scale and and the best
4:20
part about that is um with them working
4:23
at scale like this that means all the
4:25
admin stuff that is awesome about Chrome
4:27
OS can be deployed in hospitals and
4:29
clinics and stuff like that and you
4:31
don't have to worry about having all
4:32
these different modules to handle all
4:33
these different pieces of software it
4:35
can all be handled in the Chrome uh
4:37
admin console and so there's also maybe
4:40
a little bit less technical stuff going
4:42
on behind the scenes too as well that
4:43
uses Chrome in in all these different
4:45
Healthcare situation so while what we
4:47
just looked at was hyper Technical and
4:49
very specific use cases U something as
4:52
simple as televisions in hallways that
4:54
that can give signage around the
4:56
hospital to help make it feel a little
4:57
bit more friendly or you know the
4:59
television that is actually in the room
5:01
where the patient is recovering or or
5:03
getting treatment um being able to have
5:05
you know specific things like
5:06
castability and and applications you
5:09
know on that screen so they can watch
5:10
the content they want to help make them
5:12
a little bit more comfortable I mean
5:14
it's wild to see the number of ways that
5:16
chromos is getting utilized right now
5:18
across all sorts of
5:20
Industries so in this booth um
5:23
everything is really focused around um
5:25
call centers and a lot of people know
5:27
that chromos has been used in call
5:29
centers for for a long time that's I
5:30
don't think that's a secret but what
5:32
they're doing right now just in the OS
5:35
like out of the box in the OS is super
5:37
cool so first I mean you've got all
5:39
these pieces of Hardware that they're
5:40
just works with Chromebook certified so
5:42
all these different headsets that these
5:44
companies use just work out of the box
5:46
plug them in no problem and you can see
5:48
up here the ecosystem I don't know these
5:51
companies if you're watching this you
5:52
may not know these companies either
5:53
unless you work at a call center but
5:55
these are all the major call center
5:57
softwares all having native Chrome OS um
6:02
applications that work all mostly web
6:04
based now which is amazing I just it's
6:06
just amazing to me this has been so like
6:08
eye opening uh these massive companies
6:10
have decided you know what they're ready
6:11
to deploy things on the web I love it
6:14
you know that we love web- based stuff
6:16
uh I love web apps I love the web as a
6:18
platform and so this has just been so
6:19
cool um but the one thing I want to
6:21
point out here that they showed us I
6:23
think you're kind of seeing this demo so
6:24
it might pop up while while I'm talking
6:27
but now from an admin perspective you
6:29
can create a whole a whole desk so with
6:32
chromos virtual desk a whole desk that
6:33
has all the tools that uh a call center
6:36
rep would need so when that call comes
6:38
in the desk opens the software opens all
6:42
all the tools open in that specific desk
6:44
they take the call they do what they
6:45
want at the end of the call they decide
6:47
okay um I I'm done with this I can close
6:50
it all or I'm going to keep it open and
6:51
you know maybe follow up or something
6:52
with that again just really turky
6:54
Solutions delivered by Chrome OS and the
6:57
power of the web it's awesome
7:00
all right so in this booth um we're
7:02
really focused more on AI in the admin
7:05
console so um they've got a basic
7:07
example here but just imagine for a
7:08
second being a single admin uh running a
7:11
fleet of thousands of uh Chrome OS
7:14
devices and you just can't find that one
7:16
setting you can't figure out what that
7:17
one thing is or how to do that one thing
7:19
well imagine now being able to talk to
7:21
Gemini and kind of get assistance with
7:23
where to find something or you know I
7:25
need to find these particular devices
7:27
that have this particular provisioning
7:29
and like letting AI kind of sort some of
7:31
this big data out for you uh obviously
7:34
that's this is one place where Google is
7:35
going to start leveraging a lot more AI
7:37
here one other thing we did want to
7:39
point out too is I mean they're littered
7:41
all over this entire conference uh and
7:43
every Booth but here I think they put
7:45
together a nice little Showcase of just
7:48
the the great options uh for Enterprise
7:50
workers so whether you're high-end
7:52
executive Frontline worker all that kind
7:54
of stuff there's so many great options
7:55
and I've already talked to a couple
7:56
people today that didn't even realize
7:58
some of these things exist so
8:00
um for them to get these uh these
8:02
particular Chromebooks out in front of
8:03
everybody I mean the new 714 obviously
8:05
the cx54 we've got reviews of these
8:07
things fantastic devices with options
8:10
especially for Enterprise that go way up
8:12
in specs so 16 gigs of RAM half terab
8:14
storage core Ultra 7 that kind of stuff
8:16
between both of these touch screens um
8:19
but then ctl's new uh new Chromebook
8:22
plus that they've they've just released
8:23
recently um you've got 16 gigs of RAM
8:26
256 gigs storage um and I want to say
8:28
the price point like really aggressively
8:30
somewhere around 500 600 bucks on this
8:32
one and then obviously the new Samsung
8:34
uh Galaxy Chromebook plus a lot of
8:36
people again just don't know that these
8:37
things exist and so having these devices
8:40
out here and and showcasing them at this
8:43
event I think is really smart and and
8:44
hopefully there'll be a lot of people
8:45
that come by this booth today and see
8:47
these and go oh my God like we could
8:49
deploy Chromebooks now like these are
8:50
awesome so in this particular Booth uh
8:53
we're talking about security end points
8:55
um obviously for Enterprise security is
8:57
a massive massive concern and so Chrome
9:00
OS um is beginning to be implemented
9:03
with all sorts of uh new things and new
9:05
ways for uh just security endpoints to
9:08
be uh implemented and used and and so
9:11
the the demos here are a little tougher
9:13
to show off on camera uh but the idea
9:15
being like there's watermarking now on
9:17
on any documents like you can decide
9:18
where you want to have watermarks and
9:20
stuff so if somebody screenshots
9:21
something and sends it you know exactly
9:22
where it came from what device it came
9:24
from what the time stamp was on it all
9:26
that kind of stuff but also uh just the
9:28
ability to to block people from copying
9:30
and pasting sensitive data like at an
9:32
admin level you have the ability to kind
9:33
of lock this stuff down and stop people
9:35
from doing that and not just within
9:36
Chrome and Chrome OS uh but with all the
9:39
different uh ecosystem of Partners and
9:41
stuff that that exist um there there's
9:44
all kinds of companies that use you know
9:46
have third-party applications that get
9:48
used with people that are using Chrome
9:50
Enterprise and so all of these things
9:52
can all work together now and understand
9:54
that hey this device can or can't do
9:56
this can or can't share that um and so
9:58
it the biggest end point you have a lot
10:01
of times in security is people you know
10:03
people wanting to share stuff and and so
10:05
all of these tools can really help to uh
10:08
keep that stuff locked down so as you
10:10
can see in this particular Booth uh
10:13
we're just using a regular webcam and
10:14
and a HP Chrome box down there but the
10:16
setting here is in a grocery store and
10:19
obviously you know like digital signage
10:20
and all that kind of stuff in grocery
10:21
stores makes a lot of sense with with
10:23
chromeos and being able to deploy it and
10:26
and uh do all those kind of things but
10:28
this was really really interesting as
10:30
fun as this whole thing is and it
10:32
tracking you know my arms and stuff
10:34
really what this comes down to is being
10:35
able to track Shopper intent so being
10:38
able to have cameras up and around
10:40
instead of having like regular people um
10:42
standing around and taking notes about
10:45
uh Shoppers habits um AI can now do this
10:48
and so you can feed it this kind of feed
10:50
and they could understand like oh well
10:52
you know people don't tend to stand over
10:54
there because they're in the way of this
10:55
door or you know if we set that kiosk
10:58
over there people don't interact with it
10:59
because I don't know the eggs are over
11:02
there they don't like the smell of the
11:03
fish in the the deli or whatever um they
11:07
can feed all of this information in at a
11:09
grocery store or at a Walmart or
11:10
something like that and AI can go huh
11:13
well based on what we're seeing why
11:15
don't you try this why don't you move
11:16
this thing over here it might do better
11:18
um and so this this fun little thing is
11:20
really all here just to show you that
11:22
you know with a webcam and in chrom OS
11:24
you're able to track kind of some
11:25
behaviors and stuff like that so uh we
11:27
thought this one was pretty cool all
11:29
right so this is kind of the final Booth
11:31
uh and this is honestly like my favorite
11:33
this when we got to walk through this
11:35
yesterday this was the I don't know this
11:37
was a really cool thing for me to see
11:40
because I was honestly convinced that
11:42
that these devices were probably running
11:44
some sort of like native application or
11:46
something or like a Android app or
11:48
something so I mean you just see just
11:49
the smoothness of of moving through all
11:51
these menus and like animations and all
11:53
that kind of stuff I mean this is this
11:55
is signage for uh or Kiosk for a Burger
11:58
King so so you know this is you would
12:00
walk up to this and it's got you know
12:02
the ability to scan your rewards card
12:04
and I don't know what you'd put here but
12:06
whatever um it looks like a receipt
12:08
printer built in here so whole point of
12:10
sale thing all powered by the web this
12:13
is all web based so this is all pwa um
12:16
this is all running in Chrome uh Chrome
12:18
OS and so like this is amazing and then
12:21
over here we have another version of the
12:23
same thing basically just another
12:24
company makes it ELO um I'm not sure
12:28
what yeah I don't know what old dudes do
12:30
U but you know receipt printer you got
12:32
your um basic card reader that everyone
12:35
has seen a thousand times but it's all
12:36
integrated and works and once again it's
12:38
all working with Chrome OS uh it's
12:41
working I think both of these yeah these
12:43
signs say this is actually chromos Flex
12:45
so these are devices they utilize chrom
12:48
OS Flex on um web based application I
12:51
can you know add some mayo and ketchup
12:53
and all that stuff and make my whole
12:55
order and this is big chicken is that
12:57
what this is
12:59
I know this is still this is still
13:00
Burger King right let's see no oh fun
13:05
fact the cruise I went on last year they
13:07
had a big chicken cuz there Shack was
13:08
all over the place on this thing I never
13:09
got to eat it but it looks good but
13:12
again you've got a web app you've got a
13:14
a restaurant that has a web application
13:16
Chrome OS Flex running and all the stuff
13:18
you would need to take orders print
13:20
receipts take your payment all that kind
13:22
of stuff all bundled up into one cool
13:24
kiosk and so finally in this booth um
13:26
you know obviously Frontline workers and
13:28
stuff like that like we have these
13:30
detachable Chromebooks this is the new
13:31
Lenovo 11in uh this is the version that
13:34
comes with all the protective gear uh
13:35
We've not seen that but it's mainly just
13:37
a case it's the same tablet that that we
13:39
reviewed already and a different way to
13:41
hold the pen these are just devices that
13:43
are kind of out here what's really cool
13:44
is down here if you've ever worked in a
13:46
restaurant or in retail you've messed
13:48
with one of these I guarantee it um I've
13:50
never messed with this particular one I
13:52
I can't tell you the number of jobs I've
13:53
had where I've worked in these I mean
13:55
the the paper changer like you get it
13:57
it's a laser receipt printer
13:59
or one of these guys like you've been at
14:01
Kroger or Publix or whatever you know
14:03
grocery store you're at and you scan
14:05
stuff this stuff all just works now this
14:07
is all works with Chromebook certified
14:09
so all of these things that you need to
14:11
make Enterprise Solutions work actually
14:14
out in the world and not just kind of on
14:16
a laptop for somebody um it all works
14:19
now and it's I don't know this is just
14:21
really cool to see all this stuff
14:23
working together and it's probably more
14:25
cool in my mind to not only see
14:27
obviously Chrome OS is
14:29
is geared towards this kind of stuff
14:31
like chromos is built was built 10 years
14:33
ago with this kind of use case in mind
14:35
and to see it all starting to line up
14:37
and come to fruition seeing companies
14:39
moving their stuff moving their stack
14:41
moving all of their things to the web to
14:43
start taking advantage of all of the
14:45
benefits here the security benefits the
14:47
speed benefits the savings the licensing
14:49
all that kind of stuff it's just really
14:51
cool it's cool to see this all in one
14:53
spot it's super inspiring to know that
14:55
you know we talk about Chromebooks in
14:57
the consumer Market a lot for people go
14:59
to Best Buy and pick them up we've seen
15:01
Chromebooks grow in in education but
15:04
we're really seeing Chrome OS blow up
15:06
right now in Enterprise and so that's
15:07
really cool uh I think it's going to
15:08
have a trickle down effect on consumers
15:10
as well you're just going to see Chrome
15:12
OS Chromebooks web apps and stuff in
15:15
more and more places uh and it's just a
15:17
really cool thing but guys that's it for
15:19
this one if you enjoyed this video give
15:21
us a thumbs up head down there hit that
15:22
subscribe button be sure to ring the
15:24
notification icon as well if you'd like
15:25
to be alerted when we make future videos
15:27
just like this one till next time we'll
