Google is continuing to expand Gemini’s capabilities across Google Workspace, and the latest update brings some major visual firepower to Google Docs.
According to a new post on the Google Workspace Updates blog, users can now generate, edit, and refine custom images, diagrams, and infographics directly alongside their text using Gemini in Google Docs.
Context-aware visuals without leaving your document
Rather than relying on generic stock photos or jumping over to external design tools to manually draw a chart, Gemini uses the actual context of your written document to build relevant visuals from scratch.

You can trigger visual creation from the bottom action bar or the Gemini side panel in Docs using natural language prompts. Google highlighted a few ways this works in practice:
- Generate document summaries: You can ask Gemini to “Create a rich infographic visually summarizing my doc” or “Add a diagram providing an overview of the proposal at the top of my doc.”
- Refine and edit existing graphics: You can tweak created visuals dynamically with prompts like “Change the aspect ratio to 16:9” or “Make the style more aesthetic to match the rest of the document.”
- Batch visual creation: You can instruct Gemini to insert section-specific infographics across an entire long-form document simultaneously.
Because Gemini reads the surrounding prose, the generated graphics are designed to align with the specific topics and tone of your writing automatically.
Availability and rollout pace
The new inline visual generation features in Google Docs are supported on the web version of Docs and require Workspace smart features to be enabled. Rollout begins today, July 28, 2026, across both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with full feature visibility expected within 15 days.
The capability is available to Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Education Plus, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as users with the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.
