The past few years, this little trick has been a nice addition to our Christmas festivities. They don’t make it straightforward or clear, so we wanted to show you how to get this little fire going on your TV.
If you open up Play Music on your Chromebook and navigate to the settings via the hamburger menu up on the top left, you’ll see some extra options at the bottom of that screen.
Right there near the bottom in the Labs section, you can see the option to turn on the Chromecast Fireplace Visualizer. Flip that switch and you’ve now enabled the yule log on the next Chromecast you stream to.
This feature is connected to your account, not the Chromecast. What that means is once you’ve turned it on, every time you cast your Play Music the receiving Chromecast will display the yule log.
And this will work from any device once enabled. Cast from an iPad, Chromebook, Mac, Windows machine, etc…the yule log will persist until you turn it off.
Browser Only
It seems that for this year, again, Google has opted to only allow this feature to be turned on and off from the browser version of Play Music. It’s a bit of an odd move, but that is where it is.
We’re already enjoying it at the office and I hope this little feature can make your holiday fun a bit more cozy and awesome.
