We recently got a glimpse of a new 11.6″ Acer Chromebook at this year’s Computex expo but Acer has yet to officially announce and details about the device. We are pretty confident it is a smaller version of the current Acer Chromebook 14 for Work with a rugged housing.
Today we received an email from the crew over at Chromebookbuyer.com alerting us to listings of two unknown Acer devices that may just be the same one revealed at Computex. The original listing comes from the Ohio-based retailer, Provantage. A quick search of the model numbers of the two Acer Chromebooks gave me a handful of other retailers listing the device for pre-order.
Both Chromebooks share the same internals with the only difference being one is touch and one is not. On the inside we find the 6th generation, Celeron 3855U processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. From the outside, the listing shows 2 x 3.0 USB-A ports, a full-size HDMI, MicroSD and 1 x USB-C port.
All of these features line up perfectly with the base model of the Acer seen at Computex late last month. The starting price on the non-touch model is $279 making this Acer a prime contender for the educational market. If we do see Core i3/i5 models in the future, I would expect a $450+ price tag and a more enterprise focused marketing attack.
We’re never surprised to see these premature listings of unannounced devices and it’s always possible the details aren’t 100% accurate. However, these new Acers perfectly fit the bill of the Chromebooks debuted in Taipei. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates to these listings as well as signs of the higher-end models of the new Chromebook C771.
