We’ve been waiting for quite some time to hear word of Ubisoft’s popular UPlay+ service coming to Stadia, but with each passing event, Google left us high and dry for information. We knew that Ubisoft already had plans to launch it on Stadia and Amazon Luna before the year’s end, but they were vague on the details. Yesterday, Ubisoft published their own blog post detailing their plans and oh boy are they different than we thought they’d be.
Ubisoft Connect
Ubisoft Connect is their new service that brings all of their in-game services under one roof across all devices – social features, in-game rewards, challenges, and activities across Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and S, and finally Amazon Luna and of course, Google Stadia.
“Next-generation gaming goes beyond technological improvements and better graphics,” says Vice President of Online Services Stephanie Perotti. “To us, as a creator and publisher, it is about bringing more fluidity and versatility to the experience, to have the freedom to play games on whatever device and with whoever you want. Ubisoft Connect is our take on a new seamless experience to not only ease the transition between generations and platforms, but also be the starting point for new services that further contribute to new, more player-centric ways of enjoying games.”
Ubisoft Connect Reveal
The service will launch across all of these platforms on November 15th, except for Stadia and Luna. Instead, cloud gaming fans will have to wait up to a month and a half later at worst, being before December 31st since no specific date was given. The interface looks sleek and will slide out from the left side of all Ubisoft games, regardless of what console you’re playing on. To celebrate the launch of Ubisoft Connect, the company will unlock more than a thousand legacy Ubisoft Club rewards for all players for free.
Ubisoft Plus
When UPlay+ finally does launch on Luna first in beta and then later on Stadia, it will be under a new identity – Ubisoft Plus. On November 10, 2020, the service will allow these users to access the entirety of Ubisoft’s game collection through Luna with just their monthly subscription at $14.99 during that beta. When it launches on Stadia, it will pair with a free account and let users access their Ubisoft games at just the $14.99 too – Stadia Pro not required! Ubisoft Plus subscribers will also get immediate access to any other Ubisoft titles that release on Stadia, even if those games are not a part of Stadia Pro, including Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Immortals: Fenyx Rising.
It’s exciting to see that Ubisoft has thought through everything and have decided to refresh their offerings before they launch on the next generation of consoles and cloud services. At some point, I’m going to need a second income just to afford all of the subscription services in my life – my wallet can’t handle the pressure!
