Update: Ary and the Secret of Seasons has finally released on the Stadia Store for $39.99 and is eligible for Family Sharing! ‘PHOGS!’ released a date reveal trailer that shows the game is coming on December 3, 2020.
Stadia hit a stride this week as it announced 13 new games in the last two weeks alone. Just moments ago, they also revealed three new games, bringing the two week total to 16 games! Let’s take a look at what was shown off and I’ll give my thoughts on it as well. Let us know in the comments section what you think about the three games we’ll discuss and whether or not you’ll be picking them up! My money is on Ary and the Secret of Seasons.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons
Ary and the Secret of Seasons looks like an incredibly fun game. I got many hints of a Zelda like gameplay style and the art looks a lot like Kena and the Bridge of Spirits which is coming to Playstation 5 later this year. It looks to have some great Pixar-esque cinematic as well. Many of you will, of course, compare it in some ways to the recently released Windbound, but I think I’m more excited for this game for its diversity. When you watch the trailer, just look at those environments! I think this game will have a lot more life and less feeling of being alone in a mysterious world as other games in its wheelhouse.
Journey across the magnificent world of Valdi! Ary and the Secret of Seasons is an award-winning adventure game following a young girl named Aryelle, or Ary, as she journeys across the great world of Valdi.
By becoming the Guardian of Winter, Ary gains the ability to manipulate the seasons around her. Ary will learn to control the seasons and use them to defeat enemies, overcome obstacles, and solve complex puzzles on her adventure across Valdi. Long ago, the world of Valdi was threatened by an evil mage.
After a great struggle, he was defeated by the Legendary Warrior and sealed inside the Vault, imprisoned for all eternity. To ensure the mage’s imprisonment, four great sages swore to keep watch and protect the Vault. They formed the original Guardians of Seasons, a secretive organization now steeped in history and legend. After a mysterious force throws the seasons of Valdi into disarray, Ary decides to assist the Guardians of Seasons and sets out to find the source of the mayhem. Using her wits and courage, Ary will have to overcome monstrous enemies, secret plots, and stuffy traditions to save Valdi and bring balance to the world once more.
Cake Bash
I didn’t really pick up on much of what Cake Bash was by watching the trailer. Sure, its visuals are cute and sweet enough to make my teeth hurt (I like buttercream frosting, not regular), but it didn’t do a good job at explaining what the game would be. I watched some gameplay videos on Youtube and it looks like we’re looking at a brawler type of game here. The description says it better though:
Fight to be the tastiest cake in Cake Bash! A frantic four player party game where adorable drawn-to-life cakes beat the crumbs out of each other.
Cake Bash arrives October 15 on Stadia.
Phogs
Have you ever seen that old cartoon called Catdog? I immediately thought of that when I saw this for the first time – only it’s two dogs as one instead of, well, a cat and a dog. I’m guessing you and a friend will be responsible for controlling each head of the… dogdog? should you play co-op mode. I’m happy to see more games that require cooperation lately. This makes me want to pick up Snipperclips on my Switch again!
In PHOGS! you play as a duo of dogs on a captivating, puzzle-filled adventure. Linked by a stretchy belly, you’ll need to bark, bite and bounce your way through obstacles set across the themed worlds of Food, Sleep and Play, in co-op or single-player.
