During day one of Stadia’s ‘Good Stuff’ reveal event which was teased last week, the team showed off a five-minute-long presentation that packed in a few interesting things. We thought it would be longer, but that’s just because our expectations have been set by things like Nintendo’s Direct Mini format. There are two days left of reveals see though, so we remain optimistic for the potential here. We think that Google is going to launch UPlay+ integration since they announced a few days ago that tons of new Ubisoft titles will be making their way to the platform very soon. We’re also hoping to finally see Family Sharing become a reality and are fairly confident that it may.
For now, we received a release date for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (November 24, 2020), a trailer for a new game in the ‘Hello’ series called Hello Mechanic, and the previously leaked PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle game. Thanks to Cloudy with a Chance of Games, we’ve received word that as a part of the event, Google has also knocked their Stadia Premier Edition down to $79.99 / $99.99 USD and their controller down to $55.20 / $69 USD for a short time. My guess is that these deals will only last until the event ends on October 22, 2020, so if you’re interested, you should act quickly!
While a demo for the HUMANKIND beta will be announced tomorrow (day two of the event), we’re particularly excited about PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle because you can play it right now! In fact, it’s Stadia’s first-ever game demo and it’s available for free for the next 7 days. Mega Tunnel Battle looks pretty insane. 64 players all have their own maze to conquer before branching out to invade each other’s. The entire 64 maze battlefield is completely interconnected which seems like something only Stadia could pull off. This is clearly being released as a small flex for cloud gaming and shows that Stadia knows what they’re doing. After eating dots and power-ups, you’ll eat the other players and dominate their maze as well! The game features Crowd Choice where viewers can vote on power-ups that will affect players in both positive and negative ways, allowing spectator interactivity to turn the tide of gameplay. In between matches, you can customize your PAC-MAN and your home with skins to add a bit of a unique flair.
I’ve always kind of been terrible at PAC-MAN, but Stadia has really opened me up to playing things I never thought I would before and that has a lot to do with its accessibility. Being able to pick it up and play with no downloads or updates has encouraged me to start putting time into more serious games and to branch out from my casual gaming habits. We’ve included the fine print for Stadia demos so that you can understand how they work before you start playing and you can watch the ‘Good Stuff’ day 1 event below as well. Happy gaming!
