Update: Destiny 2 is officially available to all Stadia gamers! Perfectly timed to Stadia’s first birthday.
In just two days, on November 19 at 9 am PST or 12 pm EST, you can begin playing Destiny 2 absolutely free – a Stadia Pro subscription will not be needed! As a reminder, Stadia is a free to use platform, but until now, there have yet to be any completely free to play games. Rumor of Google providing games in this category was first discovered by @gemstadia on November 4, but before today, we hadn’t heard anything official from Stadia on the matter.
The free to play version of Destiny consists of tons of activities – from cooperative quests to competitive modes, challenging endgame content, and more. It’s plenty to whet your appetite and if you’re a casual gamer, it’s probably enough to hold you over indefinitely. Destiny has so much content that they recently had no other choice but to place tons of it in the vault so they could prevent the game’s download size from being too large. Of course, Stadians wouldn’t have had to worry about that, but for consistency across platforms, this made sense to do.
Please keep in mind that Destiny 2: The Collection will be pulled from the Stadia Pro lineup on November 19, the same day that the free to play version of Destiny 2 becomes available, and it features a lot more content than the free game does, so be sure to claim it before that happens! Destiny 2: The Collection features expansions like Forsaken and Shadowkeep that those playing the free version of the game will be missing out on. Because Google recently gave out tons of Stadia Premiere Edition bundles for free in exchange for getting people to sign up for Stadia Pro, there’s no reason why everyone who’s able shouldn’t be claiming the full Collection before it disappears. That’s not to mention the other 30 games you’ll get as a part of your membership!
As a heads up, having Destiny 2 go free to play wasn’t the only great news today – PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle is now on sale on the Stadia Store, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands arrives in just a few days, the Immortals: Fenyx Rising demo is back again until December 21st and there are a ton of extra indie game deals going on right now including Crayta Premium Edition being completely free for the next week. There has literally never been a better time to try Stadia, so jump in and get gaming!
