2020 is swiftly coming to an end and that means we’ll soon be doing our “Best Of” wrap up before you know it. Barring any last-minute surprises, I think that we’re all in agreement that the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 should take the crown as the overall best device of the year. That’s not to say there aren’t a slew of great Chromebooks out there to choose from. For the budget-minded folks that still like some bells and whistles, the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 is still the best device around in the $400 range.
Another contender in the mid-range segment is HP’s latest Chromebook x360 14c that offers an appreciated 8GB of RAM and just the right amount of refinements to make it a welcome successor to the original model. If you’re looking for the most bang for your buck and you can wait a couple of weeks, this would be my top pick for Black Friday. Originally $629, the 10th Gen HP Chromebook x360 14c will go on sale at Best Buy for the unheard of price of only $379. $250 off is an impressive discount on a device that can easily be considered a premium flagship Chromebook.
On the other end of the price spectrum, you will find the ultra-premium ASUS Chromebook Flip 436 and the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook. Both are beautiful and powerful machines and both Chromebooks offer their own take on what a top-end device should be. Personally, I wanted so much to love the ASUS, and overall, it is a really good device but it just doesn’t offer the fit and finish I expected from a $999 laptop. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook delivered on nearly every expectation we had for a premium Chromebook. Despite the Galaxy’s glaring battery-life issue, the sleek, stylus-toting convertible is still the most refined Chrome OS device ever created and I do think that it demands a premium price tag.
For the savvy shopper that wants the absolute best design, premium internals, incredible display, and a laptop that can turn heads, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is exactly that. That is, as long as you don’t mind the price. Thankfully, the Galaxy is enjoying a pre-Black Friday discount at the moment and you can save $100 on the Fiesta Red or Mercury Gray model from Best Buy or Amazon. For $899, you will get a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of speedy NVMe storage.
The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook features a super bright 4K AMOLED display and comes equipped with a stowable stylus. You’ll get added security with a built-in fingerprint sensor and you’re guaranteed to get Chrome OS updates through June of 2028. If you happen to be shopping for your company, Amazon just happens to be selling the Galaxy with an included Chrome Enterprise Upgrade and you can nab that model for around $1,100. You can check out all the buying options over at the Chrome Shop.
