You read that right! Though Samsung officially announced the Chromebook Pro would be available on May 28th, it seems they misspoke. Sure, the Chromebook went up for sale on that day, but it isn’t exactly accurate to say that it was available.
We’ve been waiting along with all those who ordered on or before the 28th for this device to actually begin shipping.
Turns out units began shipping yesterday.
We are getting a few notifications here and there, so we know that certain retailers are getting these out the door. We’ve heard that Amazon is beginning shipment, but we don’t have details. We have one reader who has a shipment notification from Best Buy. We’d fully expect to see the floodgates open early next week.
Reservations
Many of you, after reading the article over at The Verge, have reached out and asked if we think you should keep your pre-order or cancel.
Having used the current Pro for about 24 hours, I’d say hold on. Don’t jump ship. I’m reserving full judgement on this device until the weekend has passed for obvious reasons. One day isn’t really enough to judge a piece of hardware, especially if news of a critical bug is hovering over it.
I will work from it again today, use it all weekend, and let you know afterwards.
As I said in the piece yesterday, this is easily one of the most impressive Chrome OS experiences I’ve had. That impression is only a day old, though, so we all deserve a few more days before I can definitively say the issues raised at The Verge are not an issue.
Keep in mind that this whole thing is based on two people’s initial impressions of the device. There is a chance that we got a ‘good one’ and Dieter got a ‘bad one.’ Until these things get into consumers’ hands, it will be hard to know.
So, for now, I would say stay. Your order should ship very soon and you can be the judge.
