When we look at head-to-head videos, we are usually comparing displays, keyboards, speed, etc. For this one, things are a bit more simple.
The Samsung Chromebook Plus and Pro are, in essence, the same – except in their processors and their varying abilities to run Android Apps smoothly.
You can see our review of the Pro here and the followup review of the Plus here. And, as you’ll quickly gather, these two devices are identical ALMOST to the core.
And that core, the processors, make a difference in the things these guys are good at.
The Pro, for instance, is much better at handling more browser tabs and more intensive Chromebook tasks. The Core m3 chip is simply faster and stronger than the ARM chip in the Plus.
However, when we talk about running Android apps, the ARM chip in the Plus shows itself to be a bit more capable. But only a bit.
As you will see in the video, all processors aren’t created equally. Though the more powerful Core m3 wins in many aspects, it doesn’t win out across the board. Early on, the disparity was striking, but as the weeks have passed, the Intel-powered Pro has smoothed out almost all the wrinkles.
Sure, there are still some hiccups, and we tried to pick those up on the video, but they are nothing compared to the mountains of issues The Verge portrayed in their review.
It’s already getting much better, it seems.
Though the ARM-powered Plus seems to handle Android apps a bit more smoothly, the overall strength of the Pro’s Core m3 chip is simply better.
And it will likely be more capable in April once all the kinks are ironed out before release. In the video below, we simply want to run a few apps and show a few multi-tasking activities and let you decide.
The upside on the Plus? It is cheaper and you can get it now. I suppose it all comes down to use case as it always does. Work or play?
And that decision is for you to make.
