Power management options are pretty sparse on Chrome OS but let’s be honest, most Chromebook users needn’t worry with like power saving mode when their device will run 8+ hours on a full charge.
On the flip side, if you’re like me, you like options. For users who need to squeeze every drop of life out of their device, Chrome OS has something cooking with you in mind.
A recent addition to the Canary build of Chrome OS reveals some new power-saving options we can expect to see in future releases. Under the “Power” tab of the settings menu users will now be able to control their Chromebook’s behavior when the device sleeps or when the lid is closed.
As you can see in the images above and below, the interface is very simple. There aren’t timers, schedules or other options to complicate the procedure.
Currently, the only options to affect this behavior is the installation of extensions like Keep Awake. The new power-saving options in Chrome OS will eliminate this need.
When you close the lid of your Chromebook you can choose to have the device sleep or stay awake. When your Chromebook is left idle, you can select one of the following three options: Keep display on, Turn off the display but stay awake and Turn of the display and sleep.
This is another one of many great features we are seeing come to Chrome OS that make the user experience more fluid. The new power options appear to be functioning as expect so I would anticipate we will see these make their way to the Stable channel post-haste.
Stay tuned for more.
