After discovering the new Chromebook ‘Rowan’, we’ve now found a few additional, interesting details to go along with its new processor.
Though, just as the title of this article suggests, we have only one particular new piece of info here, there are a few interesting tidbits we can decipher from it.
What’s In A Display?
Based on the info in the .dtsi file from the Chromium Repositories, we get a model number of the display ‘Rowan’ will be utilizing. That display is the LG lp120up1, and you can see all the details at panelook.com about it.
The important bits are as follows:
- 340 Nits Brightness
- 1920×1280 Resolution
- 3:2 Aspect Ratio
- 12-inches
- IPS
In my mind, this checks off all my likes for a display. It is quite bright. Though not as eye-piercing as the Samsung Chromebook Pro (400 nits), this will be plenty bright.
IPS classification means, quite simply, the viewing angles will be great and the blacks will be deep. Contrast should be great as well.
The resolution, size, and aspect ratio are perfect in my opinion. 12-inches is great for a 3:2 display as we’ve already seen with the 12.3-inch Samsung Chromebook Plus and Pro. 3:2 gives a great vertical space for viewing web content and I’m convinced it is the best layout for Chromebooks. You can see why right here.

The resolution is great because, at that screen size, full HD is plenty of pixels without unnecessary tax on the processor. With Chrome OS’ scaling skills, the display will be crisp and the processor will be grateful for the lighter load.
Overall, thus far, ‘Rowan’ is looking like an interesting device. This display paired up with the new offering from MediaTek could be a winning combo. As we find more, we’ll report.
