According to Corbin Davenport, Google has apparently communicated to Android Police that they have officially discontinued their Nest Secure device. The two devices making up the package – the Nest Guard motion-sensing keypad and the Nest Detect magnetized sensors for your windows and walls will no longer be sold on the Google Store. If you visit the product page, you’ll be met with a button that says ‘No longer available’ instead of the normal ‘add to cart’ button.
Those of you who already own a Nest Secure system won’t have to worry right now – yours will continue to work and receive updates until Google says otherwise. I have to admit that I’m pretty bummed about this, personally. The Secure was $399 when I first bought it from Best Buy and while I have had it for a few years, I’ll be out shopping for a new system if Google decides to stop supporting this one. The company did partner with renowned security company ADT back in August, so while there is currently no known successor to the Nest Secure, they may already be poised to reveal a new device powered by ADT.
With their new Nest Aware subscription which covers all of the Nest cameras, speakers, and smart displays in your home for just $6 per month, I have to be honest and say that I’m not sure how they can beat that with whatever they may have coming next. Only time will tell whether their ADT partnership will drive prices down and make their security offerings more appealing to consumers in step with their friendly rebranding efforts or if their prices will go up and be seen more as a premium offering for specific customers.
