A new week, a new Chromebook finds its way to the ever-growing list of new devices coming in the very near future. The latest addition is another Apollo Lake-based convertible built off of the ‘reef’ baseboard.
‘Nasher’ follows in the footsteps of the soon-to-be-released Acer Chromebook Spin, ASUS C213 and HP x360. Powered by the latest Apollo Lake chipset from Intel, ‘Nasher’ looks to be another convertible most likely targeted at the Education sector. Not a lot of specs available for the x86 devices but as you can see from the board file we have tablet-mode and all the expected sensors we have come to see in these devices, i.e. lid motion sensors, accelerometer/gyro, lid switch, etc.
The manufacturer of this new Chromebook is unclear but if I had to squander a guess I would lean towards a “white-label” device made for companies to contract and brand with their own name. Much like ‘Wizpig’, these Chromebooks can be found in multiple brands with the exact same specs. It is possible ‘Nasher’ is a Dell device but with their latest Braswell-based EDU models having been released just a couple of months ago I wouldn’t bet on it.
Any way you slice it the growing number of devices coming to the market is exciting. I look forward to the Apollo Lake chips making their way to some mid-ranged consumer devices in the near future. Maybe an Acer Chromebook 14 refresh? Just a thought.
