Last year, just a month after Stadia launched to the public, game developer Typhoon Studios joined Stadia Games and Entertainment, the platform’s in-house development team for first-party titles. At that time, I immediately had a feeling that we would eventually see Journey to the Savage Planet land on Stadia at some point. What I didn’t realize is that t would take a year to make it happen. Interestingly enough, the team has worked in that time to create a version of the game exclusively for Stadia – Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month Edition.
The game is basically No Man’s Sky, only good – oh, and it has a sense of humor. I know I’ll probably catch some flak for that, but I’m sticking with that description because it’s accurate – biased, but accurate. In both games, you’ll explore alien planets, collect things and discover new flora and fauna to fill out an encyclopedia or dare I say – “Pokedex” of aliens and plants. The only difference is that this game does all of that much better in my not so humble opinion. I mean, the game’s creative director worked on Farcry 4, so the satirical story, combat, and exploration all feel more refined and fun than No Man’s Sky which I got bored of very quickly.
In the Employee of the Month Edition, you’ll get the base game and its expansion called “Hot Garbage” as well as a few Stadia exclusive bonuses:
- An enhanced photo mode
- 60 FPS
- Visual refinements and updates
- New messages from Martin Tweed, focusing on the importance of Science!
- Fresh new ads for fresh new products in our fictional future
The new edition was announced during Stadia’s Live Hangout with Austin Creed & Katie Wilson where they showed off the platform’s Crowd Choice and Crowd Play features and a few game trailers. You can watch the full live stream using the button below if you’re interested. Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month Edition will launch at the big price of free for Stadia Pro members, but not until next year.
We feel that it’s coming in January or February, but only because Stadia Games and Entertainment has a habit of keeping things close to the chest. Outcasters was announced as free to play and launched to everyone during the very same broadcast, though no release date or price was hinted at prior, so it seems like their style to announce something just and only before it launches.
