In the market for a new tablet? You may want to consider a Chromebook before you go dropping money on that new iPad Mini or a pricey Android tablet. Why? You ask. Well, for the second time in less than a month, Best Buy has dropped the price on HP’s all-new 11″ Chromebook x2 tablet. This time taking $220 off of the retail price of the premium-built 2-in-1. That’s the lowest price yet and the Chromebook has only been on the market for a month.
If you follow Chrome Unboxed, you’re probably aware that I am not a tablet person in any way. That said, the HP Chromebook x2 11 has a certain charm that draws me and I found myself wanting to use it simply because of its build quality and great screen. For those that like the tablet form factor and want the best of what’s around, HP’s Snapdragon-powered detachable is hands-down the best value around at this ridiculously low price.
We’re all waiting patiently for that one Chrome OS tablet that can truly be an all-in-one, primary device. While the HP isn’t that for me, it is powerful enough and versatile enough to be just that for many users. At this price, it’s almost a no-brainer if you’re serious about having a Chromebook tablet. As a secondary device for consuming news, blogs, social media, and video content, you won’t find a better tablet outside of the Pixel Slate but the HP is a fraction of the price and will get updates for years beyond Google’s aging tablet.
