While Google’s Play Pass always seems to offer at least the $4.99 in value that they charge you each month, we can’t help but feel it is aiming to do just that and no more. For the month of June, Google adds only a few games to the lineup valued at only $9. To make matters worse, their Play Store notification shows that exactly half of your items for the month are last month’s free games. What is going on here, Google?
They have no responsibility to provide more value than what you pay for, that’s true, but Google has millions of games to pull from to bolster the Play Pass service’s value proposition to prospective customers. These days, companies need to work to provide immense value in order to draw your attention which everyone is vying for. If they want to show how interesting and exciting Play Pass can be, especially with Apple Arcade on the market, they need to consider tossing in a few high quality games.
Yes, you get hundreds of games that already exist on the service the moment you sign up, but we think Google could do a better job of making them discoverable and I personally think that when we see that mostly low quality or oddball games are added on the first of every month, it doesn’t inspire confidence in the service. I’m willing to bet that Google is trying its best to add a wide variety of things that appeal to every type of person. That’s admirable, but maybe they need to make larger Play Pass compilations on the beginning of every month instead. Something like “Try these 20 amazing Play Pass roleplaying games this month!” Don’t worry, we’ll be making such compilations for you going forward to fill that gap, but yes, it would be great to Google put some work in here as well.
Games like Levelhead are a great start and I see value in them offering dress up games as perhaps the analytics point to the service appealing more to young women, but I would think they would get more subscribers by tossing in a few more premium RPGs with tons of content. Until then, here are your Play Pass games for the month of June. We made sure to leave out the ones we covered last month as to respect your time.
