Last week we reported on the “out of stock” status of the Chromebook Pixel(2015) and what the possible implications may be as to why. Today, a new piece of the puzzle has been added. In a post from +Wiktor Olejniczak (Witus13), it appears that Google’s premium Chromebook has been removed from the Pixel’s landing page.
Upon further investigation, it seems the post is accurate. For almost a month, the Pixel LS has been listed as out of stock in the Google Store. But now, it has gone missing from the Pixel’s homepage. What does it mean? Your guess is as good as mine. I tend to believe Google is paving the way for the next, big device in the Pixel line-up. But, why phase out the LS so soon? Being that it’s currently only one of three devices with access to The Play Store and Android Apps, it’s surely a hot commodity even at $1299.The Pixel 2013 had a good 3 year run before it was phased out. And the Pixel C seems to have new breathe in its lungs with the roll out of Android N. We’ve even entertained speculation that Google may refresh the flagship tablet to be what we all thought it would in the first place, a Chrome OS device.
But why now? According to post comment from +Doug Strider, the Pixel LS is still available in the UK. At my last check, this is in fact true. Possibly just the last of the inventory from across the pond. Either way, Google has taken the Pixel LS from its home and now we have to wonder, what’s going to fill the void?
With rumors of convertibles like “kevin”, “cave”, “elm” and more, we have to believe Google has something up their sleeve. Google’s addition of a Chrombook Pixel Quality Engineer is nothing to sneeze at either. The job posting was highly publicized in the Chrombook community as a sign the Pixel line was alive and well. Whatever they’re up to, we’re excited. Not to mention crawling out of our skin to see what’s next. The Chromebook and Chrome OS ecosystem have become exponentially expansive and we love it.
Where do you think the Pixel has gone? We’d love to hear what you think is next for Chromebooks and Chrome OS. Leave a comment below.
