Google’s Chromebook Pixel 2(2015) appears to have officially seen its final days. Amid much speculation as to why the Pixel 2 has been out of stock for almost a month, the high-end device had recently been removed from the Pixel landing page, leaving only the Pixel C. Now, according to Venture Beat, the rumors have been confirmed. In an email from a Google spokesperson, VB was told,
We’re committed to the Pixel program but we don’t have plans to restock the Pixel 2

While this comes as no surprise to many, it leaves us wondering what’s next? The rumor mill has run rampant as to what direction the Pixel program will take in developing new devices. The job posting earlier this year on Google’s career page for a Pixel Quality Engineer looks to be filled. The Chromebook market in general seems to be taking on a life of its own as it moves out of the shadows of “traditional” PC’s. Consumers are buzzing for touchscreens and convertible devices with the addition of Play Store apps. New devices are in development and testing as we speak.
All speculations aside, I doubt very seriously Google has discontinued the Pixel 2 without another device or devices already in the pipeline. With the track record of the previous Pixel devices you can almost be sure they will be a leap forward as well as a bar-setter for other OEM’s. Much like the Nexus line of mobile devices, the Pixel brand has always been a showcase of what Chromebooks are capable of in the area of performance as well as aesthetics.
Whatever Google’s plans, we can be sure it will be worth the suspense. We look forward to what’s next.
Currently, the Pixel 2 is still available in the UK. But, if you want to pick one up in the US, I’m afraid your only viable option is to luck-out on Ebay.
