We wrote not too long ago about Google Home possibly getting an update that would allow for multiple user accounts on one device. The benefit would be great and now we’re seeing signs that it may be showing up very soon.
In a screenshot snagged by Engadget, we can see the Google Home app is now saying Multiple Users Now Supported
Now, you and others in your home can get personalized experience from your Assistant on Google Home.
While this feature is still not technically usable, the fact that we can now see it in the Google Home app must mean that the feature is close to roll out.
The Benefit
For those with a Google Home, it become readily apparent that with multiple people in the house, multiple accounts become very needed.
For Google Home to get its full functions going (like agendas, calendars, reminders, etc.) in a house with more than one person, multi-account access will be necessary. If my wife wants to add an event to her calendar or check on her day, Google Home needs to be able to differentiate between us in order for that to happen.
Additionally, my hope is that voice recognition gets better as well. It would be awesome for Google Home to simply detect who is talking and answer accordingly. I’m unsure if that is in the cards at this point, but we can hope!
For now, the fact that multi-account support is just around the corner is enough to get my excited.
