Within the next two weeks, Google Docs will have the ability to work with multiple-page orientations within the same document – meaning that some pages are laid out in landscape mode and others in portrait mode. Previously, changing the document’s orientation would universally apply one setting across all of its pages – not anymore! The new update will also apply to importing and exporting Microsoft Word files that have mixed page orientation.
The idea behind the change is that Google Docs become more versatile and accommodate mixed-orientation documents from various sources, making it easier for users who are either switching to Google’s ecosystem or are using it in tandem with the Microsoft Office suite to maintain a consistent workflow.
There is no action needed on behalf of end-users or Admins in order to get this sweet, new feature as it will be automatically rolled out by Christmas day or sooner (January 5, 2021, for Scheduled Release domains) and luckily, it will become available to regular ol’ Google account users too. In order to bring this magic to life, all you’ll need to do is use your mouse to highlight a section of your Doc and right-click, then choose “change page to landscape (or portrait) – whichever is the opposite of its current orientation.
Editing Office files in Drive is becoming increasingly easier to do – just recently, the company added a one-click method of editing Office attachments in Gmail and even the ability to send the modified file back to the correspondent without having to leave the Docs, Sheets, or Slides interface! Do you use Google Doc file types or do you edit Office file types in Docs – we’d love to hear your answer in the comments!
