We’ve documented Google Assistant’s travels to Chromebooks and Chrome OS for a few months now. With all that’s been uncovered, there’s really little concern about the inevitability of Assistant on Chromebooks.
You can see a bunch of Google Assisant on Chromebooks info by clicking right here.
The question has really been more about when we’ll see it show up.
Though today’s little leak doesn’t give us a timeline, it is at least clear that Assistant on Chromebooks is likely happening very soon. When we move beyond seeing commits and hidden pieces of code and start seeing Assistant references clearly in UI elements, we can know that the arrival is getting close.
Thanks to a great find by David Cannon on his YouTube channel, we’ve been made aware of a clear reference to Assistant on Chromebooks right in the Google Home app. As you can see from the screen grab below right from my Pixel XL, this is legit and is part of the latest Google Home App under the Explore section.
We fully expect to see Google Assistant make its big debut on Chromebooks this Wednesday at Google’s hardware event on October 4th. We also figure this will be a very big part of the Pixelbook experience overall.
After all, Google’s big push since this time last year centers around different places where Google Assistant can live. It seems we won’t be waiting too much longer to see it in action!
