Just a week ago, Google expanded Play Store access to seventeen Chromebook models via the Beta Channel of Chrome OS. Today it appears that four more devices have received the update.
The official Android support page from the Chromium Projects added the following devices to the list of Chromebooks that support Android Apps.
- HP x360 Chromebook 11 G1 EE
- Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Chromebook (Gen 4)
- Lenovo Thinkpad 11e Yoga Chromebook (Gen 4)
- Lenovo N42 Chromebook
- *The Acer Chromebook R13 was also added to this list but has had access to the Play Store in Beta since late last year.
If you have one of these devices and want to try out Android Apps, simply navigate to Settings and click the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars) at the top left and select About Chrome OS. From there select “detailed build information” and “change channel.” Click Beta and change channel.
The update will take only a few minutes to download depending on your network speed. Once complete, you will be prompted to restart. After your Chromebook reboots you should be greeted with a notification that you have a “critical update” waiting for your device. This is the Play Store update. Click update and continue logging in.
After the update is complete you should see Google Play in your settings menu. You can enable Android Apps get down to business. As always, make sure you back up any data you do not want to lose. Moving back to the Stable channel will require a powerwash of your Chromebook.
