Motion Twin has partnered with Playdigious to bring the popular PC ‘roguevania’ Dead Cells to the Google Play Store. They promise no ads and no free-to-play mechanics. You pay once and receive the entire premium game! That’s right, this is the same as its PC counterpart. Earlier this year Dead Cells was listed on the store and then quickly taken down with no signs of returning until recently. The old listing for the game is now blank and can be seen below.
Play as a failed alchemic experiment and explore the sprawling, ever-changing castle to find out what happened on this gloomy island…! That is, assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers.
Dead Cells is a roguevania action platformer from Motion Twin that will require you to master frantic 2D combat with a wide variety of weapons and skills against merciless minions and boss.
Kill. Die. Learn. Repeat.
A ‘roguevania’ is a mix between a roguelike, or a game where you hack and slash your way through a dungeon and collect loot, and a Metroidvania or a game that sees you progressing through a large 2D map and returning to previous areas once you unlock upgrades that can help you progress in other directions. I guess you can mash any two words together these days.
The game ships with Gamepad support which will make Chromebook users happy. Simply connect your favorite bluetooth controller and get to it. The Nintendo Joycon is a fantastic and small controller to toss in your bag for playing on the go. If you’re interested, you can modify the game’s virtual controls in the settings and it even has an auto-hit mode which automatically attacks enemies when you’re near them.
Launching at an introductory price of $8.99, Dead Cells will eventually go up to $9.99, so grab it while you still can. The PC version of the game costs $24.99 on Steam, so I’d say this is a steal, especially when you consider that Chromebooks are personal computers. It’s been available on Apple devices for some time now, so you can pick it up wherever you wish.
