Security is one of the many things that Chrome OS does very well. With verified boot, access to 2-step authentication and the fact you cannot install executable files, your Chromebook is about as secure as a computer can get.
Despite being extremely secure, sometimes resetting your password is not only a good idea, it’s a necessity.
Changing your password on your Chromebook is super simple and since it is based on your Google account, it works across the board for all Google products it is tied to.
You can update your password a couple of different ways. If you’re signed into Chrome or a Chrome devices, simply go to your account page by following the link here. Alternatively, you can click your photo on any Google service page e.g., Gmail, Google Plus, Google.com, etc. From there click Sign-in & security then select password.
You will be prompted to enter your current password and then you can update your new password.
Once you’ve done this, log out of your device and log back in. You’re all set from there.
It is important to note that if you have multiple devices and are logging into a device in which you did not change your password, you will need to enter the old password upon initial login.
Because of the nature of Chrome OS’s verified boot and the fact that it syncs your account from the cloud, it will only recognize the old password until it has synced the changes.
There you go. Now you’re all set and can keep Chrome-ing on safe and secure.
