Chromebooks have come a long way when it comes to storage space. If you’re willing to fork over premium cash, you can get devices with snappy NVMe drives up to 512GB in size. That’s ample for most any user when we’re talking about device space but that fact remains that many of us still need a portable solution for storing and transferring large amounts of data like photos and videos. Thankfully, Chrome OS plays well with a number of file system types, and getting a portable hard drive for your Chromebook is a relatively easy task to achieve.
Western Digital just happens to be one of the companies that produce portable storage devices that will work with your Chromebook and right now, you can get 2TB of storage for the low price of $59.99. Western Digital’s Easystore external USB hard drive features USB 3.0 which is capable of transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps and comes in a compact design that’s smaller than the average smartphone. With the WD Easystore, you’ll get plug-n-play access via your Chromebook’s USB port and you can drag and drop files back and forth with ease via the Chrome OS Files app. While WD doesn’t tout Chrome OS-specific compatibility, the Easystore comes out of the box using the NTSF file system and that happens to be one of the types that Chromebooks like.
Right now, Best Buy’s Deal of the Day will score you up to $60 off when you pick up one of the Easystore drives that are available online and at select brick and mortar locations. For $59.99, you can grab the 2TB model and save $50 or bump up to 4TB for $89.99 and save sixty bucks. These are some solid savings on some serious storage and you can rest assured that your Chromebook and the Easystore drive will be great companions. One thing to note. if you happen to format the Easystore for use with a macOS device, your Chromebook may no longer have write access to it. You will want to use the drive specifically with your Chrome OS or Windows device to use the native NTFS file system. If you do end up formatting it for macOS, you’ll need to offload your data to the cloud or elsewhere before reformatting for your Chromebook. Check out the WD Easystore drives at the link below.
