We’re not trying to beat a dead horse here. But, when we say we are convinced that Chromebooks and Chrome OS aren’t going anywhere anytime soon; we truly believe it.
Amidst all the talk of Andromeda and the future of Google’s operating systems as we know it, Chromebook development has not slowed even the slightest. If anything we are seeing more and more devices being added and tested every week.
The newest of those was added to the Chromium repositories just this week.
Development of this new Apollo Lake-based Chromebook codenamed ‘Pyro’ has been sighted in the commits. We haven’t much information on this device. But, the overlay for ‘Pyro’ clearly shows a Chromebook built on the ‘Reef’ baseboard.
As Robby reported last week, ‘Reef’ is Intel’s baseboard carrying the new Apollo Lake Atom processor.
You can see the initial commits for ‘Pyro’ in the links below.
We will keep you up-to-date as we track ‘Pyro’ and all of the upcoming devices.
As for Andromeda and the future of Chrome OS?
We aren’t fortune tellers here at Chrome Unboxed. But, we believe in doing our homework and going where the evidence takes us. The rapid development of Chrome OS devices and the continued forward momentum of the Chromium OS project give us a great amount of assurance that Chromebooks are here to stay.
