Learning to code on a Chromebook is an often under-appreciated activity. Google’s laptops can be nice little devices for sinking time into the craft as they’re lightweight and have long battery life. While you or your kids may not be spending hours looking at lines of code at a Starbucks, they may want to explore the basic principles of coding with a fun game. ‘Rabbids Coding!’ from Ubisoft is a fun and friendly way to do that!
The Rabbids have invaded a spaceship and trashed everything! Thanks to the lines of code, give your instructions and regain control of the situation. Created for kids seven years or older, it was created to teach the basics of programming and algorithmic logic. It introduces notions of sequential programming, loops and conditions. No prior knowledge of programming is required to start playing. For each of the 32 levels, you’ll instruct the Rabbid on how to exit the ship and stop causing mayhem. Games like this are the easiest way to get started since you’re basically just snapping blocks together to tell the character what actions to take before watching them carried out. ‘Rabbids Coding!’ is free to play and you can download it below.
If your kids end up enjoying this type of thing, you can also check out Code with Google to learn more about computer science opportunities for their future. Google helps to ensure that every student has access to the collaborative, coding and technical skills that unlock opportunities in the classroom and beyond – no matter what their future goals may be. Saving the ship from Rabbids is a good way to start down that path and it’s fun too! There are a lot more coding coding games for kids that you can download too! Some of our favorites include Mimo, Grasshopper and Play and Learn Science from PBS Kids.
