Yesterday afternoon I received and email from one of our most loyal readers. BoB was quick to let me know that his Samsung Chromebook Plus was downloading an update as he typed the email. I quickly responded and told him I was eager to see if Chrome OS 58 was finally coming to the Android-enabled Chromebooks and that I looked forward to his report.
Sure enough, not ten minutes later, BoB messaged me back excited to share the news. The Samsung Chromebook Plus has officially updated to the latest version of Chrome OS. I immediately took to the web and pinged other Chromies with Android-enabled devices that had been left out of the recent roll-out.
As of this morning, we can confirm that the Acer Chromebook R11, ASUS Flip C100, AOpen Chromebox Mini and of course, the Samsung Chromebook Plus are all updating to version 58.0.3029.112 of Chrome OS. While this update didn’t bring any major changes, users have been anxious to receive the latest version. Many have expressed concerns among forums, reddit threads and even here on Chrome Unboxed surrounding the delay.
Thankfully, it looks like most, if not all of us, are on the same page now. All of this just in time for tomorrows start of Google I/O 2017 where we are sincerely hoping to hear more on the state of Chrome OS and Android Apps. We’ll be watching live and you can too. Check out the live stream here and join the discussion in the comments section or on Twitter. #GoogleIO
*UPDATE– We have now confirmed that the Acer Chromebook R13 has been added to the list receiving the update to 58. This is great news as the R13 seems to have been left in the dark since it’s release last year.
