As the much anticipated addition of the Google Play Store to Chromebooks nears, the ever-evolving development of our beloved operating system continues.
Chrome OS 54 brought with it a number of very welcome features. One in particular, the Files app quick preview feature, looks to be getting some robust enhancements.
In a G+ post from our favorite Chrome evangelist +François Beaufort we see the addition of more detailed metadata for the preview feature.
In its initial release, the quick preview was only available for images stored on the local drive and it provided only basic information for these files. Now we have a much more detailed view of the file data as well as the inclusion of music files that contain meta information.
What’s new?
Here’s some details on what data can now be seen with the quick view feature:
I use the Files App Quick View feature on a daily basis to quickly get more information on downloaded files and I’m quite happy to notice that more metadata are now available in the latest Chrome OS Dev update:
- genre, track and duration, album, year recorded
- device setting including model, F number, exposure time, focal length and ISO,
- geography (latitude and the longitude where the image was taken)
For info, you can start Quick View by selecting a file in the Files app and press the <Space> key.
This, along with so many tweaks and upgrades, are making Chrome OS better everyday.
