The latest Canary build of Chrome for Android has added a new, experimental flag that will allow users to paste without copying. Copyless Paste can be found in the newest version of Chrome Canary 60 and will provide text suggestions based on content viewed in the browser.
App Indexing (Copyless Paste)
Here’s a synopsis of how the new feature will work from the flag description in Chrome.
Provide suggestions for text input, based on your recent context. For example, if you looked at a restaurant website and switched to the Maps app, the keyboard would offer the name of that restaurant as a suggestion to enter into the search bar.
The feature, clearly in its infant state, does not appear to be functioning yet but it will be interesting to see it in action once it is live. Likely it will come with Chrome version 60 in the coming months but it is always possible that developers could sneak it into an incremental update to 58 or 59.
For those who don’t care to share their data, the App Indexing flag does note that data is indexed locally and NEVER set to the server. The feature is also disabled in Incognito mode. I enabled this feature via chrome://flags and once it was turned on I was asked to update Chrome’s permissions. So don’t worry, if you like to keep your browsing to yourself, you still can.

Chrome Canary is the most outlying version of Google’s browser where new features are generally tested before making their way to the more usable builds, Developer, Beta and eventually Stable which the majority of users have on their devices. The Canary build of Chrome for Android can be found in the Play Store and ran side-by-side with your standard Chrome browser.
The Copyless paste option is not enabled by default. To check it out head to chrome://flags
in your Canary browser. Using the “find in page” option search paste and you will see App Indexing (Copyless Paste). Select enable then relaunch your browser and you’re all set. Alternately, you can type #enable-copyless-paste
in the omnibox and restart Canary.
