Despite Microsoft’s efforts to bring users back to their IE and Edge browsers, Google’s Chrome captures the major share of global users. In a report from web analytics firm Net Applications, Chrome gained 2% of the market in the month of July, finishing the month at 51%. While Chrome has dominated U.S. market for some time now, this marks the first time Google’s browser has collectively edged to over 50% in the global hunt for web superiority.
While Microsoft, Apple and Mozilla continue to gradually lose ground, Chrome has posted an increase in users four of the last six months. The increasing popularity of Chromebooks has no doubt impacted these statistics. And, while Microsoft is trying to tout the fact that their Edge browser is more power efficient than Chrome, they seem to have shot themselves in the foot by forcing the majority of their users to upgrade to IE11.
In my opinion, the most notable part of this achievement is the fact that just a year ago, Chrome’s worldwide market share was a just shy of 30%. That is a massive increase. Proof positive that whether you’re a fan or not, Chrome is the real deal.
