We have heard, through the grapevine, that these devices have experienced a delay in release. We have our speculations as to the reasons but no official word has been shared. These Chromebooks were slated to be available as soon as early May but continued to be held back. I was informed by an EDU reseller that the ASUS C213 would be ready to ship at the end of the first week of July. Unfortunately, that same reseller is now saying early September.
A Good Sign
Although we still have no solid release date on these devices we do have some good indicators it will be soon. HP has already begun listing the x360 Chromebook on their list of models and now ASUS has followed suit. Not only has ASUS listed the C213, they have given it a dedicated, beautifully designed landing page much like the C302 Chromebook Flip. Here’s a quick recap of the specs on ASUS’s new convertible.
The ASUS C213 is expected to have access to the Android Apps out of the box. From our initial hands-on with the Chromebook, I expect this to be a very popular machine. The new generation of EDU Chromebooks are bringing more powerful features, rugged design and a refined look.
All of this does come with a price though. The ASUS Chromebook Flip C213SA will set you back $349 and that doesn’t get you the optional stylus. You’re looking at $399 for that feature.
We look forward to getting some more time with this device and will bring you a full review as soon as possible.
What do you think? Are these new EDU Chromebooks pushing the limits of pricing or is that just the cost of progress? Drop a comment below.
